Us becoming «coffee people»…

A couple of years back while visiting Peru lots of the persons we spoke with seemed to have some connection to coffee. No wonder you may say, as the population is above 35mill (as of 2024), and it is the worlds 8th largest producer.
Anyhow we took this more as a sign rather than coincidence. Wegard had some experience working in a coffee bar way back 2005-2008, while as Blanca on the other hand had more of an understanding from the producing country being from that country and all, but never in detail. In other words we are humble novices.

..so we made a decision and plunged in to the matter…

Blanca & Wegard

The coffee as a life style

We have always enjoyed a good cup, and as we learn, we get better at discerning as well. So the jar of instant coffee that way overdue has been lurking around on the shelf has been on the transfer list for some time. But embarrassingly enough laziness some times just gets the better of you, right?

At the time we made decision to explore more of this magnificent world of coffee we understood that we had to put some effort in to the empirical side as well. Wast amounts of youtube videos was consumed (..on going), and we finally braced ourselves to attend a roasting and cupping class at rRebel in Oslo.

Back in Peru again this year -spring 2024, we felt better prepared to state the right questions and we came in contact with a local barrista and roaster whom guided us in the direction of a person that now is our main contact for Peruvian green coffee.

The cryptic meaning of Huaca Qumir

The two words are in Quechua and separately can be translated to Treasure (huaca) and Green (qumir). Please correct me one with more elaborate proficiency in that language. And please forgive me if I have insulted you.

Green in spanish translates to verde, and that again was family name of one of the most positive persons we knew, that always supported our «madness» and ideas we had while visiting Peru, and being with Blancas family. So Verde is a homage to Claudia Camabilca Verde. We believe she would have been proud of us in this venture as well, but unfortunately she passed away from us unexpectedly all to soon in 2023. We miss her and her positivity every day.

So we’ve figured the name, what about the visual presentation?

Wegard has background in graphic design and web development. That turned out not to be an advantage. You know, the child of a shoe maker and all that.

Well equipped with all the right tools, and a clear understanding of «the clients products and vision» he cracked on with several examples only to find out that ia does a descent job if you feed it the right info. So the logo was born – with some tweeks.
It represents in a good way how we want to manage coffee, or better yet, how we take care of it.

  • The leaves
We are involved in the farmers well being
  • The cups (and the bloom?)
We like to know what we buy, so we cup. Also represents product ready for consumption.
  • The disposable cup emphasizes even more the cups from above, a product ready for consumption.
  • The branches – we are out reaching, and we strive to excel on customer service.
  • The wavy steam. The road may be curvy, but we will adapt and proceed. That leads us to the flowers on the branches – we will «blossom»!
  • Last but not least; obviously the coffee bean itself. The essence of it all.
